Ms. Fournier utilizes technique from the Stanislavski system of acting, known as “The Method.” Taught at New York’s famed Actors Studio, under the direction of the late Lee Strasberg, Ms. Fournier trained under the guidance of David LeGrant in the 60’s.
Among famous actors who benefited from this method are:
James Dean, Marlon Brando, Paul Newman, Lee J. Cobb, Karl Malden, Rod Steiger, Al Pacino, Kim Stanley, Geraldine Page, Joanne Woodward, Ellen Burstyn, and Marilyn Monroe.
Ms. Fournier also benefited as an actor by working under the direction of director-choreographers Bob Fosse and Jerome Robbins, who imperatively believed in “subtext” or inner motivation, to be utilized in producing necessary emotion in their choreographic work.
Characteristically, “Method” works from the inside out. Bare bone, truthful, raw, and lacking in pretension, this technique utilizes emotional memory work to create the necessary building blocks and structure for the actor to draw from.
“Method” requires absolute commitment and willingness to “lay it on the line.” Developing these building blocks through various techniques encourages students to trust the process and themselves.
